30XX, Sequel to Acclaimed Top-Seller 20XX, Unveiled

POST-HUMAN EARTH – Feb. 13, 30XX –Batterystaple Games, the studio behind 20XX which was named one of the Top Early Access Graduates of 2017 by Valve and purchased by more than 200,000 fans of co-op roguelike platformer action, is proud to announce a follow-up to its hit first effort, 30XX. Developed with support from Kowloon Nights30XX will make its debut at PAX East 2020 before double jumping and dashing to Windows PC and consoles in 2021.

Inspired by classic Mega Man titles and infused with modern design, 30XX builds upon 20XX’s Megaroguelike foundation with a plethora of new features including a new hi-bit art style from art director Glauber Kotaki (Rogue LegacyDuelyst, and Chasm) and a fresh set of eight new worlds to explore, each with their own identity, platforming mechanics, and fearsome Guardian.

Beyond the aesthetic overhaul, 20XX heroes Nina and Ace return with a myriad of new abilities. No longer merely wielding different primary weapons, in 30XX the powerful pair possess entirely distinct move sets allowing greater freedom of expression for both exploring levels and beating back the machines holding Earth prisoner.

Nina’s new Power Fusion system allows her to meld together abilities earned from vanquishing bosses and tailor them to the situation at hand with 64 separate attacks. Meanwhile, the blade-brandishing Ace boasts a versatile set of Techniques, which can be chained together with standard attacks to unleash fierce combos, adapt to any situation, and reach new heights.

30XX also introduces a fresh level of roguelike challenge and reward with its new metagame currency, Memoria. Collected during runs, Memoria can augment the experience, boosting character abilities, giving keen insight into the challenges to come, or altering how stages generate other helping hands. Once certain criteria are met, turn up the heat with Entropy Conditions, introducing optional layers of additional difficulty in exchange for Memoria and other rewards.

„The response to 20XX has been incredible, but we still see many ways we can continue to improve and expand upon the wonderful game our community helped us build,“ said Chris King, founder of Batterystaple. “With 30XX, our mission is to realize the limitless potential the genre offers, and we can’t wait to bring our fans into the fold to help shape the process.”

30XX will be available for hands-on demos in the Indie MEGABOOTH at booth 21027 during PAX East 2020 in Boston, Mass. Feb. 27-March 1 ahead of its full release across Windows PC and other video game platforms in 2021.

New trailer reveals total player freedom of sandbox mode for Eric Chahi’s VR game Paper Beast

Montpellier, France – February 11th, 2020 – Eric Chahi’s (Another WorldFrom Dust) studio Pixel Reef has today revealed the sandbox mode of their upcoming PlayStation VR game Paper Beast (Q1 2020). An entirely stand-alone game mode, Sandbox allows players to create their own unique, freeform virtual domains, from the fantastical creatures that inhabit it, to the weather and the terrain itself.

The new Sandbox mode approximates a god game experience, as active experimentation with Paper Beast’s intriguing ecosystem plays a major role. Players can form and manipulate the environment, influence the weather and experiment with the deep physics engine that powers Paper Beast.

Experience the distinct characteristics of Paper Beast’s wildlife in this brand-new mode, as creature behaviour is profoundly dependent on the elements. Special focus is given to immersion and environmental simulation. Players can interact with eleven different hybrid animal species, as well as plants, geological elements, and even the sun.

“The Sandbox mode is the place for players‘ creativity and experimentation,” says Eric Chahi. “Imagine creatures creating dams and diverting water, but what happens if you freeze the water? It’s up to you to find out. For our part, we’ve discovered a lot of emergent behaviour while playing. I’m sure the gaming community will surprise us!”

The Paper Beast sandbox mode will coexist with a captivating story in which intrepid player-explorers discover a blossoming virtual world where the environments and quirky animals have independently evolved from lost code and forgotten data. Following an unspoken narrative, players will solve environmental puzzles and interact with fascinating wildlife that adapts its behaviour to the player’s actions. Paper Beast is set to launch on PlayStation VR in Q1 of 2020.

More details can be found on TwitterFacebookInstagram and the Pixel Reef website. Subscribe to the newsletter to receive the latest news about Paper Beast.

Baron: Fur is Gonna Fly Soars Onto Switch, XB1, PC on 4 March

PERTH, AUSTRALIA – 5 Feb. 2020 – Baron: Fur is Gonna Fly, the high-flying party showdown from Dogmelon Games, barrel rolls onto Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Steam on 4 March, 2020.

Fight for the skies against up to seven other players using gatling guns, freeze rays and anvils to take out rival pilots, all while the wind blows through your fur, feathers or scales. Spin, dive and loop through cascades of bullets and avoid perilously crashing to the ground below to become ruler of the skies.

Responding to the call to arms, animals have taken to the skies in cutting-edge early 20th century aviation technology – biplanes. Fulfil their solemn duty by taking each other down in wacky combat and bringing glory to their species in literal aerial dogfights. Choose between eight cartoony critters such as Baron von Fluffe-Botte, a high-flying sausage dog or Colonel Hock, a motherly pig following her dreams of flight. These heroes each come with their own style, voice and old-timey victory theme.

Looking fly in styles of the period choose from four, semi-historically accurate aircraft. Each has its own stats balancing weight, handling, speed and armor, empowering ace-pilots or budding flyers to select the perfect plane for their aerial antics. Further customization comes from upgrading the biplanes stats between rounds, and changing up equipped special weapons.

While the aircraft may be historically accurate, animal pilots excluded, the weapons are hilariously not. If the basic barrage of bullets isn’t enough, equip one of more than 13 outlandish weapons to blow other critters out of the sky. Get explosive with the colourful Balloon Bomb, spew forth hot victory with the Flamethrower or simply repulse away the competition with the Stinky Fish. Crashing is only a minor setback as pilots return to the sky mere moments after their defeat to continue the aerial hijinks.

The variety of multiplayer and singleplayer modes might call for a bigger couch. Create an alliance to take down agile foes in team co-op, or embrace aerial chaos with in free-for-all. Solo ace-pilots can hone their skills in training mode or compete to get the highest score in Sheep Attack by rounding up flying sheep, putting an end to their aerial menace.

“In between crafting all the animal puns we can handle we’ve focused on capturing that chaotic couch multiplayer feeling,” said Anthony Wiese, Lead Developer of Dogmelon Games. “Our aim from the start was to make Baron as much ludicrous fun as possible and from players reactions so far we’ve done just that.”

Baron: Fur is Gonna Fly will be available for $20 USD on Steam for PC, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. Languages include English, Chinese and Japanese for Steam, with more to be added post-launch.

Armed and Gelatinous Splats onto PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam in Q3 2020

LOS ANGELES – 3 Feb. 2020 – Armed and Gelatinous, the frenzied multiplayer arcade space shooter featuring squishy blob warfare from Three Flip Studios, bursts onto PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well as Windows, Mac and Linux via Steam in Q3 2020. The new Food Fight and Dodgeball multiplayer modes and single player Target Practice campaign will debut at PAX East 2020.

Begin conquering space by selecting one of four vibrant blobs. Absorb an arsenal of more than 12 weapons including machine guns, rocket launchers, and laser rifles. Each firearm gained adds more viscous mass along with greater damage capabilities, but don’t be jelly when opponents claim massive stockpiles. Smaller, more agile wobbly warriors can take aim with a juiced up dash attack to blast their bloated brethren to smithereens. Fear not, if peppered with grenades or a hail of bullets, munch on delicious space tacos to replenish health.

PAX East attendees will be first to master every weapon in the timed challenges of Target Practice, be the last warrior wiggling in the Dodgeball arena or race for tacos in Food Fight mode, where the blob who eats the most tacos wins. Climb the global leaderboards with the best single player times or jiggle through the far reaches of space with online and local competitive game modes in a plethora of celestial battlegrounds.

Customize matches by setting the victory point goal, time limit, number of lives and which weapons and items are available. Create a bazooka-only match and try to time explosive attacks perfectly or limit weapon drops and rely on dash attacks.

Armed and Gelatinous features voice talent Brian Sommer from Diablo III and League of Legends under the direction of Jory Prum (The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Among the Sleep), who also engineered the game’s more than 20 eclectic jazz and retro music tracks in collaboration with artists including Chris Huelsbeck (R-Type, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron) and Zac Zinger (Street Fighter, Final Fantasy XV).

“Jory recorded the perfect sound effects for our wacky zero-gravity space shooter, and his masters of the 21 tracks on our original soundtrack have given it a truly stellar vibe,” said Rob Howland, co-founder, Three Flip Studios. “Anyone can learn to play Armed and Gelatinous, but only the most skilled will dominate. It’s super easy to pick up and play with friends or the whole family, providing hours of fun at maximum silliness for every kind of player.”

Armed and Gelatinous will be available for hands-on demos of the console and arcade cabinet versions at PAX East booth 28077. It will support English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German and Italian on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam for Windows, Mac and Linux for $19.99 USD in Q3 2020. Arcade cabinets are live now at Two Bit Circus in Los Angeles, CA, Quarters Arcade Bar in Salt Lake City, UT, Starport Arcade and Pub in Morgantown, WV and Glitch Bar in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
